Provera and PCOS: Understanding Cycle Irregularities After Miscarriage
QuestionHello, I have pcos and lost one baby to preterm labor and one miscarriage. I normally don't start a period on my own but after my miscarriage in January I started a period in Feb and March on my own. In April I didn't get a period and took nine tests up until 3 weeks ago. I should have started my period April 15th, but I think I ovulated very late. Since I didn't start my Dr gave me provera for 10 days on the 12th of this month. I started spotting 3 days after my last pill. I saw a fertility Dr on the 27th and she did a urine pregnancy test because I had pregnancy symptoms. It came out positive; I am now bleeding like a period because I took the provera. Could the provera cause a miscarriage or harm the baby?
AnswerDear Cassandra,
This would be highly dependent upon the dosage you took and the length of time you took it for, in relation to the pregnancy. But because Provera has been linked to some issue with miscarriages and problems with the babies in certain cases, it will be important that you let your fertility doctor know that you took it, for how long, and what the dosage was. They then can determine whether you actually conceived the pregnancy while taking it or not, and if so, whether it was taken during any crucial developmental stages.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and apologize for the delay - I need a new computer! :)
