Early Period After Birth Control Patch: What to Know

Question
Quick background check. I'm 24. I have been on the patch for a year and prior to the patch was on the pill. Regardless of me wearing the patch he insist on condoms. Two moths ago I convinced him to at least start off unprotected and then halfway though the sex he will put a condom on. This month my period came today ,three days early (Monday but its due Thursday). Is something wrong was my paranoid boyfriend right for being cautious? If anyone could lend some advice it would be greatly appreciated. thanks you can post here or my e-mail at  gngrthms@yahoo.com thankssss

Answer
Dear Ginger,

I would suspect this is just a bit of a variance in your cycle. If you are on the BC patch and he is putting on a condom prior to ejaculation, you seem to be well protected.

Menstrual cycles are considered "normal" even if they vary a few days from month to month - 28 days, then 31, then 29, then 30, then 28, etc,... More than likely there was some hormonal factor, stress, diet, unusual exercise, or something that caused you to ovulate a little earlier than normal and/or your period to come a bit early this month. I'd be more concerned if you were late or didn't get your period.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. Please write again with any additional questions. I hope you have a happy Christmas season!
