QuestionNormally, I change my patch on Sundays. Last week I forgot to change it on Sunday. Luckily, I did remember to on Monday. I did have sex either on Monday or Tuesday, I can't remember. In the Ortho Evra literature it says that as long as you remember to change it within 24 hours after your normal patch change day you do not need any other form of BC. We use condoms always though. This week is my patch free week. I always get my period on Wednesdays. Today is Wed. and I haven't gotten it. Could it be late because I changed my last patch late?
Also, does it matter what time of the day you change your patch as long as it's on the correct day? EX: I usually change mine between 8-11 at night on Sundays. Is it bad to change it at all different times?
AnswerDear Dee,
As long as you changed your patch in the 24 hour window, you should remain completely protected - especially if you use condoms anyway. The time of day should not matter (as long as it's on same day), except that it does aid a lot in the routine of helping you to remember to change it.
The late period may or may not be due to the alteration of changing days. Theoretically, it shouldn't. But our bodies become accustomed to those particular hormone levels and react in turn. I would not worry about pregnancy though, if I were you. You seem to be protecting yourself extremely well!
I hope this has answered your question and helped you. I wish you well and a merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!
