Irregular Periods & Ovulation: Tracking & Identifying Ovulation

Question
I am 33 and a mother of a 3 yr old. I currently have my period. It started 6/28/04. I would like to get pregnant again soon, but my cycles are irregular. I'm never sure when I'm ovulating. My cycles go long (51 Days from 1st day of last men. cyc.) to short (27 days from 1st day last men. cyc.) I keep a journal so I know the lengths. How can I tell when I'm ovulating?
Here are my cycle lenghts:
Jan-51 days; Feb-27 days; Mar-45 days; Apr-24 days; May-48 days; June-33 days.
Thank you in advance!
Teresa

Answer
You may or may not be ovulating. YOu may have to go on birth control pills for a few months to regulate your periods, and then stop the pills and try to conceive. YOu can also purchase an ovulation preductor kit from the pharmacy and try to pinpoint the exact day of ovulation. I would start testing around cycle day #15 and then every few days until you get a positive result. Then you can figure out when you ovulated. then try concentrating on having sex one day prior to ovulation and up to 4 days after.
