QuestionI just found out that I'm pregnant. I'm glad, but wasn't expecting it. I also suffer from Migraine headaches and had a major one yesterday that kept me form even being fully aware of things going on around me. Needless to say I had shot of Toradol. By my count I'm only 4 weeks. Did I endanger my baby?
AnswerDear Lisa,
From what I can find in researching the drug, Toradol has much more of an adverse effect used late in pregnancy than early. Late in pregnancy, there is an issue with its effect on the premature closing of the ductus arteriosus, as well as prolonging the length of the pregnancy and prolonging labor, etc,...
It has not been shown to cause birth defects in animal studies, however studies have not been done in pregnant women to establish its level of safety. As with any medication, risks vs. benefits are weighed during pregnancy before being given. You will need to make sure that you report your pregnancy to any treating physician.
I sympathize with your situation - as a migraine sufferer myself. I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. Be well.
