QuestionHi Helene,
I just found out I'm pregnant. I'm about 6wks...I'm 38yrs old & I weight about 165lbs...I use to do aerobics class but had to stop when they closed. Last month I joined a gym where i do cardio & weights...
I'm just moved to India about a yr ago from Texas b/c of my husband's work. My 1st appt w/my gyno confirmed i was pregnant. My next visit is coming up to discuss everything else.
I know I shouldn't doubt what she is going to say to me about exercising...but I can't help from thinking a U.S. Dr. would relate better to knowing me & my body.
My gym trainer is nice, but I'm not too sure how savvy he is w/American women & their bodies during pregnancy...
Can you provide me with some advice?
Thanks soo much!
AnswerWell, this is a big question.
In general, women can continue with their usual exercise routines and intensity until about 20 weeks or so. Then you'll need to begin to taper down the intensity of workouts, as well as modify body positions.
These guidelines are for low risk pregnancies.
