QuestionI'm 33 years old, this will be my first child, and my last menstrual period was March 10th.
My question is: I'm very overweight but through diet and exercise I've lost 30lbs. From everything I've read I shouldn't lose weight while I'm pregnant, the problem is I'm eating healthier, dieting and exercising, though not excessively, and I am continuing to lose a couple of lbs a week. Is this bad for the baby?
AnswerIf you have lost 30 lbs and are pregnant, you should go on some sort of maintenance (like weight watchers maintenance diet) so that you will not lose or gain any weight. It is not good to lose any weight during pregnancy because we have no way to know if you are losing the weight or if the baby is losing the weight and not growing adequately.
