Persistent Postpartum Bleeding: What to Expect & When to Seek Help

Question
I had a baby girl on october 19th 2006 and was wondering if it normal if I am still continuing to bleed. It is now february 10th 2007 and it has almost been 4 months since I had my daughter. I am makeing an appointment to see a doctor but I figured it may be wise to get a second opinion.

Answer
Dear Andrea,

If you have been having continuous bleeding, then no. We do see women who can have bleeding/spotting for up to 6 weeks, but then their regular cycles should begin.

It is good you are making an appointment with your doctor. That is exactly what I would have suggested. :-)

I hope this has helped you and I wish you well.
