Post-Hysterectomy Side Effects: Insomnia, Fatigue & Hot Flashes

Question
Hi there, I had a hysterectomy back in April of this year.  Since then some very strange things have been happening.  We will start with insomnia, fatigue, this has been a recent develpment only starting in the past 2 months or so.  I can fall asleep but am unable to stay asleep, as I get extremely hot and wake up. then have trouble going back to sleep.  In regards to feeling hot, I also feel hot when doing any form of excersise, even wandering around the mall, i get extremely sweaty.  I have been having trouble controlling my temper/emotions.  This has gotten so bad that I can actually get so worked up that I throw things, which is something that I have never done.  It is almost like I know i am doing this but am unable to control it....very frustrating.  i have been retaining water a fair amount, some days worse than others.  I seem to retain it mostly in the morning and then it like falls off throughout the day ( if that makes any sense) 6 months ago i weighed in at 135 lbs.  In the past 5-6 months I have gained a total of 43 lbs.  I have not changed my diet to consume more calories, if anything have been taking in less in the past 2 months, and started an exercise program, in which i am working out 3 days per week for at least and hour per day.  Most  of the gain is in my abdomin, my upper arms ( i look like a football player) and in my bust. ( went from a 36C to a 38 F in the same time frame).  I also have more stretch marks now that i had in the past from having my children.  Stretch marks are on bust and stomach.  Previous medical history, I have 4 children, delivered vaginally, had one miscarriage, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, apendectomy, asthma & hypothyroidism.  I have an appointment with my doctor next Monday, and I am hoping to go in with some very straight forward questions, but the problem is i have no idea what I am trying to identify here.  I do not want to chalk it up to depression because, i have never had that in the past, and if it weren't for the weight gain and the temper control i think i would feel better at least by 60%. If you have any ideas of things that I should be asking about please let me know. Otherwise, what is your personal opinion on my list of symptoms I appreciate any outlook.  Thank You.

Answer
The first thing I would think of is hypothyroidism, and even though you listed it, I would make sure you are on the perfect dose... I like to increase the dose until the TSH is 1.0 plus or minus 0.5.

I would also have a general evaluation looking for diabetes, anemia also.  I am hard pressed to think a mental illness can cause all of this, but depression still can cause a lot of it.  Also, consider sleep apnea as a cause... see if you snore at night and if, when you snore, you have periods of 10 seconds where you don't breathe, and then you catch up.

Those are my big thoughts and where I would start....

I hope this helps
