QuestionI am 29 years old, and recently went for a termination of my pregnancy, which was approximately 8 weeks old. I am on a course of antibiotics now. I have no children.
Last night, before my shower, I removed my bra and found my nipples wet. Curious, I squeezed my breasts and a milky white liquid flowed out. The consistency was watery and smooth.
Is this milk, and is this normal to lactate after an abortion? My breasts are still tender, and I'm worried that this is a symptom of an incomplete abortion. Please tell me if I should be worried in any way at all. Thank you!
AnswerWhen you are pregnant, you can start to lactate (whether you keep the pregnancy or terminate the pregnancy). Your levels of HCG will gradually go down after an abortion. If you continue to notice white discharge from your nipples, consult your gynecologist and get a Prolactin level performed. Sometimes there can be a production of Prolactin from the pituitary gland. It does not mean that it was an incomplete abortion. If it persists, call your doctor.
