Understanding HCG Levels and Potential Miscarriage: What You Need to Know

Question
My hcg levels have dropped and I'm pretty sure I'm miscarrying. I had 2
follicles and a trigger shot this cycle. I'm wondering if you have any idea as to
whether
1 hcg levels ever go up after they've dropped?
and 2. With the pregnyl hcg trigger will I certainly have O'd 38hrs later or
could it possibly be later still?

I suppose i'm thinking that bc I know there were 2 follicles, I'm wondering if
one's made it and one hasnt' and I'm wondering if I could possibly have O'd
later than I thought.
I had the trigger shot on cd 12
HCG levels...

thanks,
Nikki

Answer
Dear Nikki,

It really would not make a difference whether there were 2 or 10 follicles. Once there is a fertilized egg/embryo, hCG production begins. If there is no embryo to produce it, then it won't begin climbing significantly above non-pregnant levels.
(Sorry to be the bubble burster)  :-(

The hCG level that would normally be considered at a pregnant level would be 25 mIU/ml or more. Anything below that is really just too "iffy".

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
