QuestionQUESTION: 5 1/2 wks post d+c with no menses yet and hcg 899. Peak pre-miscarriage only 4000. Presumably simply too early to note fully dropped level?
ANSWER: Dear "Guest",
I would not dismiss the possibility of a post D&C pregnancy with that high of an hCG 5.5 weeks after the procedure - especially if you have had unprotected sex during that time. Most women can expect their levels to return to a non-pregnant range about 4-6 weeks after a pregnancy loss has occurred. This can vary by how the loss occurred (spontaneous miscarriage, D&C, abortion, natural delivery) and how high the levels were at the time of the loss. Many doctors will continue to test hCG levels after a pregnancy loss to ensure they return back to <5.0. I would suggest discussing it with your doctor. He/she may want to get another level to make sure it is decreasing rather than increasing!
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.

QUESTION: OK, one more. Prior IVF so could not go by LMP anyway. D+C was 29 Jun and seem to be pregnant now. Start counting from the one of two possible dates (in my case, the earlier one is more likely) for due dates?
AnswerDear "Guest",
Well, congratulations!
Dating of pregnancies (the 40 weeks) is by LMP. So, I would suspect if you are thinking the earlier IVF date is conception date, then add 2 weeks. However, the first ultrasound will be the most conclusive for dating purposes in your case.
Hope that helps! Be well.
