Irregular Periods After Miscarriage and Preterm Birth: What to Expect
QuestionMore than a year ago I had misscarried twins and five months ago I had my son a month early. I was on birth control off and on for 3 months and two months ago I stopped taking birth control completely. I haven't had my period in two months and the pregnancy test still says negative. My husband and I aren't used to condems so we rarely use them. I've always been regular and I don't have insurance right now because my medicaid expired and my husband joins the Air Force in January so we were waiting for that insurance. I'm not sure if I should go to Planned Parenthood or somewhere cheap. Am I overexagerating? Should I rule out the possibility of being pregnant or is it possible that it is just to early to tell? Because of my previous pregnancies I am really scared to have more problems and not know what's happening. Please help!
AnswerDear Ashley,
If you don't wish to conceive an unplanned pregnancy, I would recommend that you at least check into Planned Parenthood or a similar facility near you to see about programs which base the price of contraceptives on your income. You could also talk to your doctor's office and tell them that you are in a financial bind and have no insurance until January and ask if they have any BCP sample packs that they could give you to get you through until after January when your husband's insurance kicks in.
Many women will have delayed cycles when coming off of the BCP, however before resuming the BCP you would need to rule out pregnancy by testing. If you have already done one (you didn't say when), you would need to repeat that before starting any BCPs again. When you test make sure to use 1st morning urine to get a concentrated sample for the most accurate results.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
