Stopping Birth Control: What to Expect & Safe Transition
QuestionI am 19 years old and I started taking the pill about 4 months ago to regulate my periods. I am not nor have I ever been sexually active. I have gained some weight and I often experience breast tenderness so I want to stop the pill and see if I feel better when I am not taking it. I am concerned that my periods will go back to being very irregular. Is it safe to stop the pill and then start again a few months later?
AnswerIf you are uncomfortable taking the pill, you can certainly stop the pill. Just remember that your cycle may revert back to being irregular once you stop the pill. You can, of course, restart the pill in a few months. HOwever, I do not understand why you would want to stop the pill for a few months. When you start the pill again, you may have breakthrough bleeding, beast tenderness, and weight gain for the fist three months of being on the pill. HOwever, the symptoms usually get better after three months of use.
