Rh Incompatibility & Pregnancy: Understanding Risks and Management

Question
How fast will antibodies attack the fetus if I had a Rh incompatibility with my third pregnancy?  During my third pregnancy my baby had the same blood type (A-) so there was no problem going full term.  My doctor said I failed the glucose test because some of our blood mixed because of the Rh incompatibility.  He also said with subsequent pregnancies I would develop a problem if the baby had a positive blood type and recommended that I didn't try for any more children.  First let me explain my first child was (A+) but my second child was stillborn at full term (due to a tightly coiled cord) so I'm not sure what blood type she would have had.  I don't know God's will but after our third child we don't have any plans on having anymore children (we're using protection) because of the docs advice. I just wanted a second opinion.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

I am sorry to hear of your loss.  I have had a similar experience and know how difficult it is.  I apologize that I am not a physician who can specifically answer your question about RH incompatibility.  However, I have heard that there are medications that can be taken during pregnancy, to correct the issue and reduce the possibility for complications significantly.  If you were to have more children,  you may want to consult a high risk specialist who would be able to manage this for you. I hope this helps.
