Understanding Your Abnormal AutoDiff Blood Test Results: What Do They Mean?

I just got the results of a blood test, and my doctor will tell me only that I need to come back for further testing.  He had me scared to death when he started to drop words like "possible  lymphoma".  These are the numbers that he says are way off:

Hematology ...
MCHC   30.7
RDW    15.8

AutoDiff...
Gran#  0.8
Gran%  14.0
Lymph%  70.5
Mid%  15.5

What do these numbers mean, and how scared should I be?

Hi Annabelle. You do need further testing. The number that jumps out at me is the lymph % number of 70.5.  Typically this number is less than about 40%.  Anytime that number is greater than 55% demands attention. The doctor will also take into account any symptoms you may be having.  He may also consider sending you to a blood specialist, called a hemotologist.  I don't want to scare you either, but you shouldn't delay.
