Answer
Dear Natasha,

Oh, how I wish there was a magical way to get women to ovulate! It would solve the problems so many women face. Unfortunately, there just isn't. You may come across herbal potions out there which claim to regulate women's cycles, but I urge tremendous caution. Herbal remedies are not tested or governed by the FDA. Therefore, their claims do not have to be substantiated in any manner. They can claim essentially anything they want. If they have one woman who happened to get pregnant while on a certain herb...waalaa - the herb promotes pregnancy. Just be careful. Herbs are actually medications and can interact with foods and medicines and cause terrible side effects if not monitored carefully.

There are many various causes for amenorrhea (absence of periods) - pregnancy being just one. Others can be:
-Hormonal imbalances, which cause fluctuating levels of the hormones needed to support menstruation
-Emotional or physical stress / Depression
-Rapid weight loss or gain
-Change in diet
-Low body weight
-Obesity
-Frequent or strenuous exercise
-Cysts or tumors in the ovaries
-Thyroid or Pituitary dysfunction
-Certain medications or drug use
-Menopause OR Premature ovarian failure (menopause before age 40)
-Occasionally stopping birth control pills**

I would suspect your body is simply having a bit of trouble regulating hormones and getting your cycles on track without the influence of the BCPs. It may be necessary for you to get an injection to stimulate a period and get those cycles started again.

The general recommendation is that if you miss three consecutive periods and pregnancy is not the reason, you should see your doctor so that a cause can be determined. I hope that this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
