Heavy Menstrual Bleeding: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor
QuestionHi, I'm 28 years old and I have three kids: 10,8, and 19 months. For the past 6 months I have had heavy periods every 2 weeks with a large amount of pain from my lower back to my mid thighs. I use 80 tampons a month and still over flow into my clothing. I have started back smoking cigarettes pretty heavy about a year ago and have been on and off anti psychic meds for 8 years; not on any meds at this time. I've never used birth control. I have recently had change in a new sex partner for the same 6 months. My period has never caused me any problems before. During my last pregnancy I did have a strong smell the entire time. After birth it went away, but within the last 6 months it has returned and now with constant burning and itching. My mother had endometriosis and struggled with treatment for years. I have asthma and all 3 of my children were a c section birth. I don't not have insurance and am really afraid of what the problem could be. I have been under alot of stress and alot of major life changes. I have major hair loss and breakage and my weight has gone up and down. I have major swelling In my stomach, looks as if I'm pregnant.
AnswerIf your mother had endometriosis, there's a strong possibility that you could have it too. The pain, heavy periods, and bloating you report are endo symptoms. I don't think burning and itching are endo symptoms. That could be something else. A vaginal yeast infection possibly? Hair loss and unexplained weight fluctuations may mean a thyroid issue. Women with endo frequently also have problems with thyroid, yeast infections, and asthma. Please see a doctor as soon as possible. The remedies may be very easy and you may be able to find relief quickly. You've suffered enough. Something is going on with your body--maybe hormones are just a little out of whack. Check with your doctor or clinic. You shouldn't have to suffer any longer! Good luck, and take care...
