Early Pregnancy Symptoms: What Could It Mean?

Question
Hi,

I am approximately 1 week pregnant.  Conception likely occurred on July 1.  I have not tested yet, it's just one of those things.  This is my second child.

I feel the way I felt roughly 8 weeks into my last pregnancy.  I have experienced exhaustion since about 5 dpo, which is getting worse, and frequent urination since yesterday (6 dpo), today I am mildly sick to my stomach and have some low blood sugar issues.  The exhaustion is pretty extreme and getting worse each day.  With my first child I felt no nausea until about 6 weeks, and even then it was very minimal the entire time.  In fact, the way I feel now is about as bad as it got.

I had early symptoms of exhaustion with my first child too, at approximately 6 dpo, but this is crazy.  Assuming for the sake of argument that I am pregnant, is this the sign of a more difficult pregnancy?

Answer
Dear Jennifer,

Assuming - for the sake of argument - that you are pregnant, no. It may or may not mean that you will have a more "difficult" pregnancy. It may simply mean that you will have a more taxing first trimester OR that you are older and it is a little harder on you OR that you are wiser and more in tune to symptoms OR that the sex of the baby is different (old wives tale!). There are many possibilities, but there is no reason to automatically assume it means that you will struggle through this entire pregnancy as opposed to your first.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.

Brenda
