Understanding Placenta Position, Cervical Length & Cerclage During Pregnancy

Question
Hi,

I am 22 weeks pregnant now. This is my first pregnancy.
Last week an ultrasound scanning had been taken for me.

My report says
Placenta is located posteriorly. Its lower end is >3.0 cm above the internal os. It shows grade 'O' changes.

Cervical Length measures 3.68 cm
Internal os is closed. Cervical canal is slightly patulous

My Doctor has performed Wurm's cerclage and has advised me complete bed rest till delivery.

Its worrying me too much

Is that really a problem? Do I need to take complete bed rest even after the cerclage?
I am a software engineer.

What care should be taken?
Could you please advise me?

Thanks,
Kanupriya

Answer
Dear Kanupriya,

Yes, bedrest after a cervical cerclage - especially well into the 2nd trimester, is not at all unusual and is pretty common. It is advisable to keep the weight of the baby off the cervix in order to make sure the cerclage holds and the cervix remains closed to prevent a very premature delivery. I would suggest following your doctor's instructions completely.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
