Cervical Tear After Cerclage: Understanding Postpartum Recovery
QuestionI had a cerclage put in @ 22wks with my second pregnancy due to an incompotent cervix. My first pregnancy was full term with a UTI that caused some preterm labor but wasc stopped @ 31wks. My 2nd baby was delivered 1mth early. The on call dr. didn't make it to the hospital in time to remove the cerclage which he said caused a cerivcal tear that he repaired immediately. When I went back for my postpartum check-up the dr. that assisted my PC OB/GYN in insertion of the cerclage examed me and said that I healed well. To my surprise @ my Pap Smear in June of last year, I found out 5 days before I got married that I have a cervix that is torn so badly that a 3rd cerclage would be very difficult to put in. I maybe pregnant again. Should I worry or is there anything that can be done that won't put me and my baby's life at stake.
AnswerI would not worry but I would be concerned. I highly recommend you see an OB/GYN as soon as you are able to have this checked- including one who specializes in high-risk pregnancies if you can. I would definitely seek a professional opinion and see what measures, if any, that you can take (including perhaps a change in lifestyle or medical procedure) to correct your cervix.
Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.
Best wishes,
Helen =)
