AnswerThe McDonald cervical cerclage is pretty good and has success in about 80% of the time. You should take it easy and lie down if you have any pains. What is happening this pregnancy. You should have serial sonograms to assess whether the cervix remains closed or if there is any funneling. If the stitch starts to cut into the cervix, you may notice it if there is bleeding, or if you start to have cramping, or if a sonogram shows dilatation of the cervix. If the baby is delivered prior to 26 weeks, there is a much higher chance of morbity or martality than if the baby can remain inutero for at least 28 weeks or more. It is not due to the weight of the baby that insures success, it is due to the level of maturity of the organs (especially the lungs). Just rest and do not lift anything heavy. Good Luck.
