C-Section Scar Healing & Postpartum Soreness: What to Expect
QuestionI am 26 yrs old and am the mother of two, both delivered by c- section. My second child is a month old and although this scar area from the cut has healed quite a bit better than the first ( which was 4 and a half yrs ago now ) but I have an area on my right side about an inch and a half above the cut that is sore and swollen. I at first thought it was an area of loose skin or fat from the pregnancy but it has gradually gotten more sore and more swollen. Also, now the area underneath the cut is getting very very tender and beginning to puff up a little on the left side. Neither place is like a lump or knot or hardened in any way. The actually cut itself does not appear to be infected ( I would have some idea what that would look like bc that happened with my first child twice, once right afterwards and then again about a yr later bc not all the sutures dissolved apparently and as they were working their way to the surface it caused an infection )I did however this time pull a suture about three days after the c - section. I don't want to be paranoid but is this swelling and pain normal or something I should be concerned about and get checked? If so what could cause this?
AnswerDear Courtney
Such complaint 1 month after CS should definitely alert you to seek medical examination. This can be an allergic reaction to the sutures used that ended up into an inflammatory reaction and started infectious process or may be an alarm for impending burst abdomen.
Other possibilities definitely exist. It is almost impossible to give a diagnosis here based on ur description and i urge you to seek examination by the surgeon who performed the CS.
Good Luck
