Post-Abortion Menstrual Cycle: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
My question is about the menstrual period after an abortion. The clinic tells you that if you have not gotten a period by 6 weeks post abortion you should contact them but in "After Abortion Faq" on this website, it's stated that periods are irregular and one can wait up till 3 months to be sure before being evaluated. Today marks a month since my MVA at EAO and my period has not returned yet, but quite frankly, I am not sure I even want it to come. I am so afraid of it returning. In fact, I am dreading it. So many women in online forums complain of extreme changes in their period such as extreme cramping, bleeding, very large blood clots. I am already emotionally drained and now worrying about my period, I feel stretched to the limit. I feel like I am still not out of the woods for new issues cropping up. No one really talks about what to expect from your next period after this particular type of abortion, so I guess that is my question. Also, what are the chances of things like Hematometra cropping up during the period?

Answer
The first period can be heavy but usually is not of any concern.  We have our patients call to check for several reasons.  These include  making sure they do not have a new pregnancy,  using a contraceptive method, and finally to check on their emotional state.
Hematometra occurs in the initial period after an abortion.
