Pregnancy Concerns: 1cm Dilated at 38 Weeks - Is This Normal?

Question
I am at my due date in 2 days, and have not been having any signs of contractions. I am 1 cm dialated and estimated 70% effaced by my doctor. The heart rate of the baby changes between 140 and 150 each week. I do notice weak movements but not very often during the day altho pretty constant at night. The areas I grow very concerned with is the size I am at, I measure 38in, but my belly is considerably small and I do notice being damp constantly but not wet, without an odor. Im concerned that my small size is due to either lack of fluid or lack of proper growth, I do frequently lie heavily on my side which Im concerned may be limiting circulation... I ask my doctor but she claims evrything should be fine but is still suprised I havent gone into labor yet. Could any of these factors also be hindering labor, particularly due to circulation, and is there any suggestions that may be helpful?

Answer
Dearefore if your abdomen have been smallat all times during pregnancy Linda

Some women have small babies constitutionally and therefore if your abdomen have been small at all times during pregnancye , there is no reason to worry about. However, if the abdomen suddenly felt smaller than usual, it may indicte that there is some leakage of fluid and this is a serious condition and has to be confirmed by sonography. On the other hand, if you have noticed a reduction in fetal movements, this is again soething that should be considered seriously.

The findings u described of 1 cm dilataion and 70% effeacement are quite well at this stage if this is your first delivery. You should be aware that delivery may go 1 week beyond your due date and this falls within the normal range. You may feel contractions or notice the passage of show within the coming few days.

Good Luck
