QuestionI am confused as to when my baby is actually due. Because I am high risk I have two doctors. Both concur on the due dates within a day or two.I had sex the day after I finished my period. The doctor says it would be rare for me to get pregnant the day after. I also had sex on Friday February 24th which is when I feel I conceived, but my due date in Nov. 5th! Huh? I am confused! Eight ultrasounds show measurements for Nov. 4,5,6 and 7th. Help me. I am sooo confused! Am I right or are they? Jo
AnswerHi Jo,
congratulations on your pregnancy!
The reason why you are confused is because the pregnancy cycle starts with the first day of last period- so technically, the period is considered part of the pregnancy... the pregnancy cycle and calendar does not start with the day you get pregnant.
To calculate a due date, you take the first day of your last period, go back three months and add seven days.
So, let's work backwards: your due date is November 5th... let's ADD three months: February 7.....
now TAKE AWAY 7 days: (working backwards, remember)
this gets us to January 31.
So, you probably got your period right around the end of January, beginning of February... and YES it is TOTALLY possible to get pregnant the day after your period ends! Not to argue with your doctor, since he IS a doctor and I am not, but yes you probably DID get pregnant the day after your period ended. Feb 24th would be way too late, I believe.
If the doctors are agreeing on the due dates though, and the ultrasounds are all measuring for that due date, chances are it is accurate. The reason they are playing with the date is two things: 1) it is called an ESTIMATED due date, or EDD... and 2) the baby's size may vary from week to week. So you are due SOMETIME in the first week of November.
I hope this has helped clear up some of your confusion! if not please let me know and I will figure out more info for you, if you need.
:-) good luck! andi
