Pregnancy After Molar Pregnancy: Concerns & Ultrasound

Question
ok this is kinda complicated for me to understand so it is probably going to be hard for me to explain so bare with me. My question is my husband and I have been trying to conceive since july of 2006, well on November 13th I found out i was pregnant had it confirmed on the 15th by a doctor well my doctor sent me to get a sonogram done because my last baby i was pregnant with turned out to be a molar pregnancy and we was making sure that everything was ok. When we got the results back on the sonogram it said that i was only 5 weeks pregnant and that my due date was now july 28, 2007 but if that is the actual due date not going by my period but by my sonogram then we would have found out 2 days after conception which is not possible so what should i do is the sonogram wrong or is something wrong with my baby and it is growing to small for its gestational age
sorry if i confuse you but like i said i am confused myself and dont have no one to answer questions i dont go back to the doctor until the 29th of this month
thank you for your time

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Unfortuently, you never gave me the date of your last period. I could have had a better idea, as to what is going on, or a general idea as to how pregnant you are.

Now, another possible scenario, would be that you ovulated earlier then you thought. If this is the case, this could certainly cause all the confusion with your dates. This definately could be a viable possilbity.

However, I did some calculations of my own, based on the due date that you recieved from the sonogram.

My dates, are as follows.

Based on that due date, I have you roughly at 4 weeks, and 1 day pregnant.

Conception, to my calculations, wouldnt have even occured until December 5th of this month! Yet, you found out you were pregnant on the 13th of November.

In reality, if you are only 4-5 weeks pregnant, you would have had a period, roughly around the 21st of November.

So I am completely in agreement with you. The dates so not coincide at all, and your doctor either made an error, or, the baby is measuring smaller then for what it should be.

If it were me, I would definately call your doctor and explain your concern to him/her detailed. Explain indepthly, the dates of confirmed pregnancy, and so on and that it makes absolutely no sense, for gestational age, that he has suggested.

Also, given that you have had a sonogram, I would assume that if there was something wrong with the growth of the fetus, it would have been determined by now, or atleast have been some indication, because of the date confustion. But that hasnt been mentioned to you, so I can only assume that to this point, the pregnancy has been ruled normal.

I know, this must be nagging at you. So for your peace of mind, I would call the doctor. You dont need the added worry and stress of waiting, this is not good for your condition. And you definately dont want this on your shoulders over the holidays. I definately would express my concerns, and get the confirmation that on a physical aspect, things are okay.

I am sorry Jennifer, but you are right, there is alot of confusion here. I am sorry that I was inconclusive with my answer, but I just dont know why these dates are so far off from your last period. It really, doesnt make sense.

I hope you get a straight answer soon, as to why there are huge gaps in the time frame ...I will keep you thoughts for you. Bare minimum, I hope I gave you some insight.

Thankyou for writing, and trusting me with your question. I wish you the best.
