Persistent Bleeding After Miscarriage: What to Do?

Question
Hello.

I had a natural miscarriage on November 4, 2007 and bled for a week after and miscarriage was complete. I had no bleeding for about 2 weeks and then on the 29th of November I started bleeding again. For the 8 days it was like heavy spotting and after a 12 hour break (with no bleeding at all), I started bleeding really heavily. So, in essence I've been bleeding since the 29th of November. There's no sign of the bleeding getting lighter or that it will stop. I'm with a constant headache and often feel lightheaded, dizzy and faint.

Could you enlighten me on what may be going on with my body?

Answer
Hi CeeCee
I would go and see your GP as soon as you can. There could be a few reasons why you're bleeding so much, one is that you have retained some tissue which is causing the prolonged bleeding.
The ill effects you are experiencing may be due to Anaemia, an iron deficiency, which can be caused by blood loss. It may be worth taking an iron supplement and making sure that you drink plenty to combat dehydration.

As I said previously, the priority would be to see your doctor as soon as possible so they may get straight to the source of the problem. Prolonged bleeding, especially if it's heavy, can be very dangerous if left untreated.

I do hope this has helped.
Kindest Regards
Sarah
