Understanding 24-Hour Urine Protein & Creatinine Clearance Tests

Question
hi. i was just wondering what does the protein 24 hour urine and creatinine clearance lab test is for? it's making me nervous because and of the people i know that were pregnant didn't have to do this. does this mean anything bad? im scared :(

Answer
Hi,
I am not familiar with any reason that this lab work would be done on a pregnant woman.
It is normally done to check for kidney disease or malfunction, specifically in people with diabetes.

You'll need to ask your doctor why s/he ordered the test.
It's your body, and any information about it belongs to you, as well. Call the office, and insist on holding while they get you the information you're asking for, if necessary.
Good luck,
Sheva
