Understanding High MPV Levels: What Does It Mean?
QuestionWhen I was pregnant I was looking over my labs, my son was born almost months early. after giving birth my body went into postpartum CHF and i had around 60 lbs of fluid on board and in my lungs. I was looking at a lab test called mpv what does that test check for because mine was high the last few weeks of my pregnancy. can you help me out?
AnswerHi Stacy, I'd be glad to try and answer your question. MPV stands for "Mean Platelet Volume". MPV gives your doctor information about platelet production in your bone marrow. Platelets are the part of your blood responsible for clotting. I don't believe that this was the cause of your postpartum CHF, especially if the result was not way out of range. If it wasn't significantly high, I wouldn't be too concerned.
