QuestionJust recently had a CBC and the only abnormality was MPV. It came back 6.3 with a range of 7.8 - 11.0. Any significance in itself?
The other results that were normal but on the low end were...
WBC 5.4 Range: 4.5 - 10.5
RBC 4.06 Range: 4.0 - 6.0
Hgb 12.2 Range: 11.0 - 18.0
Hct 35.7 Range: 35.0 - 60.0
Plt 191 Range: 150 - 450
Again, any significance? Thanks!

{EJBURLING ANSWER 2}: What were the MCV, MCH and MCHC values on your CBC results? *******************************************************************
{EJBURLING ANSWER 1}: A low mpv is associated with small platelets. However your platelet nos. are within the normal range.
On the other hand, your Hemoglobin and Hematocrit values are on the low end of normal.
((If your MCV was also on the low end of normal, you may want to consider making a follow-up appointment with your doctor to screen for iron deficiency anemia since this combination of low values is associated with hypochromic microcytic RBCs (small, pale RBCs) which are diagnostic ofiron deficiency anemia.))
The small platelet volume may or may not be associated with a diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia, but your physician should be able to answer this question.
If you are diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, your physician may want to put you on OTC iron supplements such as Ferrous gluconate.
