Please be aware that the information provided is not a substitute for medical advice and should not be interpreted as medical advice.  This information is being provided for informational purposes only.  Your own physician is the best resource to interpret your specific laboratory results and should be consulted for medical advice regarding your own specific health condition.

It appears based on the website response by a Dr. Simran, MD that alcohol is contraindicated after contrast dye due to toxic effects on the kidney.  Also, since water appears to be recommended to flush the contrast media from the system for several days after receiving contrast dye, and alcohol is a diuretic, that would be another contraindication to alcohol consumption immediately after receiving contrast dye.

Answer by Dr Simran, MD (doctor) on Sat 02, Aug 2008 03:07am:

"Hello Dear, After the CT scan with the contrast, lots of fluids have to be taken to help your kidneys remove the medium from your body Atleast 5 to 6 glasses of water a day for 2 days have to be taken after the scan. The water helps flush the contrast media from the system.Alcohol is totally contraindicated after CT scan due to its toxic effects on the kidney. You should be careful and do not consume any hard drinks. Best"

"Is it safe to drink alcohol 12 hours after having a CT scan with IV contrat medium? I know that I need to drink as much water as possible and avoid caffeine/alcohol. I am just wondering if alcohol will hurt anything."
