QuestionHello,
I have heard stress levels can cause infertility problems. I had a very difficult colonoscopy treatment (Klean-prep use caused intense stress and many adverse reactions. Plus the colonoscopy procedure resulted in severe tearing of my lower colon). Prior to the colonoscopy, my FSH levels were at 12. Now then less than one month after the colonoscopy, my FSH levels are at 48. I am 44 years old.
I do realize that this may be a coincidence, but I find it difficult to understand how my FSH levels increased four-fold in less than one month. Your help clarifying this is most appreciated. Thank you.
AnswerHello Helen from Canada,
It is very unlikely that the colonoscopy had anything to do with your FSH levels. It is purely coincidence. What is most likely is that you are in the "peri-menopausal" stage of your life and so there will be fluctuations in your ovarian function. If you do serial checks of the FSH levels on cycle day #2 or 3 of each month, you will probably see wide swings. This is an indication that menopause is nearing.
Good Luck,
