Understanding Infertility Testing: Cycle Day 2 & 21

Question
My hubby & i married for 1.5 years. We're well prepare for having a baby,& we have tried for last 3 months (purposely do it during fertile windows), but still not yet conceive.

I aware that it might take 1 year or longer time to become conceive, therefore, i visited doctor last week & did for Infertility test on Cycle Day 2.

Doctor wants me to do Cycle Day 21 Test on 07/29/2009, then he will do the analysis & explain to us how is the result from the Report.

May i know that is this the right way to find out what's our problem?

Answer
Hello,

The testing certainly will not hurt, but at this point are not necessary.  The cycle day # 2 test is for your ovarian hormones to check if they are normal.  The CD#21 test is to see if you are ovulating.  There are many other tests that would need to be done to test for your fertility, but I would not recommend that yet.  You have not tried for a long enough period of time.  In general, it takes 85% of women under the age of 30, 8-12 months to achieve pregnancy, so don't despair.  You still have a good chance of conceiving on your own and should continue trying.  If you are not successful after one year of trying, then you should begin the infertility testing.
