Post-HSG Bleeding: What's Normal & When to Worry?

Question
Hello!
I had an HSG test 7 days ago (no blockage found). The first 2 days after, I had some light spotting and cramping. Then the bleeding became heavier; like a light period but no more cramping. I did call my Dr and she told me not to worry, some people bleed longer than others. Do you think this is normal? Also, I am supposed to start my period in 3 days. If I am still bleeding from this, how will I know if I start? I am to start clomid this month.

Answer
Hello Angela,

It is possible that the HSG caused the menses to start early and that is the cause of your bleeding.  However, usually the HSG is done between D#5-D#12 of the cycle because of the risk that a pregnancy could be present at the time of the test.  I'm surprised your doctor and radiology clinic did it in the second half of your cycle.  For now, I would agree with your doctor that there is no need to worry.

Good Luck,
