QuestionDear Dr. Rynne,
This is not a medical question per se, but I'm hoping you can shed some insight. I recently gave my doctor a Christmas gift, and he responded awkwardly and ungraciously. He reluctantly took the gift, which was a baked goods plate, and barely said 'thankyou'. I was just trying to show my gratitude for how wonderful he usually is, but the moment he saw the gift he turned cold. I never ask for favours, and have always been told by him how 'good' of a patient I am. This is not a big deal, although I feel, like he feels I've crossed some boundary. I've seen him accept bottles of wine from patients before, so I didn't think this would be a problem. Do doctors not want gifts from patients?
AnswerHi there Kelly, thank you for posting your question with Allexperts. My name is Dr Andrew Rynne. I am a medical doctor working in Ireland. I have ten years experience helping people Online sort out their medical concerns.
Your doctor may just have been having a bad hair day. Doctor generally do not have any problem in accepting tokens of appreciations. When these come in bottles they are probably more "acceptable" than foodstuff. I hope this answers your question.
