Shortness of Breath, Acid Reflux, and Other Symptoms: Possible Causes & Concerns

Question
QUESTION: Hi - I have acid reflux, high blood pressure and am overweight.  On occasion, I experience where I feel that I cannot get enough air - I also experience choking when I lay down, and a sore throat.  I am thinking that I may have allergies of some sort - is that possible?  Or would it be from the acid reflux?  I have allergies to many medications - sulfa based drugs, codeine, water pills, etc.  My chest hurts as well from choking I believe, I almost think it is Pneumonia.

On an related issue, I have been getting tingling in my face -- doctor says it may be related to a virus?

ANSWER: this easily could be acid reflux, it could be sleep apnea progressing or an infection.  You have good ideas... you need to be looked at to sort it out....   facial tingling.... could be, hopefully, not a stroke warning sign....

QUESTION: Thank you.  I think I may have sleep apnea.  The face tingling has been happening since December.  I had an MRI - which I have not heard back from, as they were checking for a brain tumor.  Yes, I was concerned about stroke as well, but I guess since nothing else has happened, and my doctor did all sorts cognitive tests, I guess that was ruled out?  Also suspected Bell's Palsy but I did not have the drooping of the face.  What else should I be getting checked to rule out the possibility of a stroke?  My BP is usually 128/78.

Thanks again

Answer
Bell's palsy is a motor problem as opposed to a sensation problem, so definitely not that.  There are some nerve disorders (trigeminal neuralgia) that can present as one sided sensation problems... I would have a thorough exam and then see if any testing needs to be done.
