QuestionThank you for your response. I am getting treated with therapy and medication already. I am feeling pretty good physically but would like to get checked anyway to see if my windpipe is okay. Would the ER docs force me to go to the Psych Ward if I went in for a check? Thank you again for your help.

I was recently treated for depression and suicidal behavior. A few days ago I tried to hang myself using an electric cord as a ligature. Obviously I did not succeed, and I never actually lost consciousness, but I did notice a feeling of light-headedness afterwards. My throat is a bit irritated and I'm wondering if I should go to an ER to get my windpipe checked. I'm afraid that they will admit me to the Psych Ward if they know what really happened. Is there a way to get this checked out without getting put into the Psych Ward? Also, is there any risk of brain damage from the lack of oxygen I experienced?
Answer -
chances are that if you are ok a couple of days afterwards, then there was no serious damage, but what worries me is if you actually are suicidal, don't you think things can get better by getting your depression treated?
Things can always get better.... believe me.
AnswerNo, I don't think the ER doc would at that point... since it is several days later and you have not tried add'l methods, then he would not. He is forced to if he thinks you are, but from your description to me, I don't think you are suicidal at this point, so you will be OK
