Knee & Elbow Injury Healing: A Doctor's Perspective

Question
Hi Dr. Aukerman,

I'm 55 years young and a daily jogger. About 4 days ago, I tripped on a sidewalk and cut/skinned my right knee, elbow and palm of my hand. The palm is about healed but my knee and elbow linger. I scraped the right side of my knee on a bone (a large scrape) and the top of the knee. The elbow scrape is also on the bone of the elbow joint. Do it normally take longer to heal in those areas because it's boney and there is lots of bending? Is anything recommended other then the usual hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, etc.? How long should I wait for it to heal before worrying about it? I've heard of the flesh-eating bactieria and worry when something takes a while to heal. Thanks.

Answer
Do it normally take longer to heal in those areas because it's boney and there is lots of bending? Yes.

Is anything recommended other then the usual hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, etc.? No, that is the best but I assume you take a multivitamin 1/2 twice a day and a B-50 high potency B complex and 1000mg of vit C each twice a day.

How long should I wait for it to heal before worrying about it? 7-10 days is usual
