Post-Abortion Bleeding: What to Expect and When to Worry

Question
I had an abortion in early June and after my first period about a month later things seemed to be going fine. I started taking birth control for the first time but now I have been bleeding for nearly a month and I am starting to get worried. There isnt any awful pain other than minor cramps that are less severe than what i have experienced with my regular periods. the bleeding isnt terribly heavy and a lot of the time it it very light. but i was just seeking advice because i dont know what i should do...

Answer
Hello, Ter,

You didn't say what kind of abortion you had. That could be important. For example, I have gotten reports like this from women who have had pill abortions. They seem to be fine, and they go on birth control, and then they start to bleed, and bleed, and bleed. Obviously, this isn't good for your body, because over time, it can cause serious blood loss, even if it's only a little at a time. A woman can get run down and then become vulnerable to infections and other things.

Some people are able to help the situation by taking cayenne and cranesbill. These are herbs, and quite safe.

I recommend you see a decent doctor about this. Don't go to the person who provided the abortion. Find someone else. You can find a decent doctor by finding a local organization that helps pregnant women. They will recommend someone. You can find a local organization by going here:

It may be a hormonal imbalance, or an injury from the abortion, or an infection, or other problem. The doctor will need to get to the bottom of it.

Please let me know what you find out and how you do. Take care.
