QuestionI find more and more with this condition despite drinking liquids and taking Metamucil or other fibre I have days or short periods of sluggish or no bowel movement, It generally will catch up in a day or so.
At my age, 68 and with this condition is this the normal or is there anything else I might do to regulate myself better. As the diverticulosis is rather extensive and could be partially caused as I understand from long use of dilantin for epilepsy surgery is not really considered an option at this time unless I have severe problems. I have chronic prostatitis and when there is any slow down of bewels it puts more pressure on bladder.
AnswerDiverticulosis is kept from being diverticulitis, or bleeding by keeping the bowel movements soft and moving along. Fiber via metamucil, a lot of fluids are a good way. There is another drug, Zelnorm, that helps with chronic constipation also, but you have to be taking enough fiber. You can also use another artificial fiber that is more potent, Miralax. You should discuss all of this with your physician.
Hope this helps...
