Ankle Fracture & Perimenopause: Recommended Diagnostic Tests
QuestionI am a 37 year old woman with a swollen left ankle. I could not bear weight without having severe pain. I had got my ankle X-rayed and I was told that the tip of the fibula was completely fractured from the rest of the bone. I had been diagnosed with perimenopause about six months ago. I also am having a lot of back pain that is recurrent. what other tests do you think I should get to determine the underlying cause of my fracture? What are the possible causes of my fracture? How should my fracture be treated?
AnswerDear Sara,
Who x-rayed your ankle and diagnosed the fracture? How long have you had the back pain? When was this diagnosed?
I would suggest seeing a good orthopedic physician who can properly treat your fracture. Your back problems could be from a number of causes. You have not given me very much information.
Your primary care physician can run tests to see if you have any abnormal laboratory results.
My suggestion is to have a visit with your PCP and get to an Orthopedic specialist.
If you can provide me with more information I will try to assist you in anyway I can.
