ANSWER: Dear Jackie,

Dear Heart, I can feel for you.  Fourteen is hard enough without being uncomfortable about perspiration.  However, please rest assured you are not alone, and people don't notice like you think they might.

It is estimated that over three million teens suffer from excessive perspiration.  It has a name.  It is called HYPERHIDROSIS.  Meaning, more sweat in various places.   It is actually caused by increased impulses of the central nervous system (CNS).  This is what controls every aspect of your body...it involves your brain and spinal cord, nerves in your body, etc.  This is NOT a disease process.  You are NOT ill with this condition.

There are some things you can do to help this problem.  Wear loose clothing, especially things made of cotton.  Cotton wicks away extra moisture.  Don't sit in direct sunlight.  Use a cornstarch based body powder.  Eat a healthy and balanced diet.  Try and use relaxation techniques.  And, of great help, are the prescription antiperspirants and deodorants.

I hope this was of help to you, Jackie.  Please let me know if this didn't help, or if you want more information.

Best wishes,

Andrea

Answer
Dear Jackie,

It seems like eventually, you do grow out of it, but some people just perspire more than others.

Teens do excrete more perspiration than others, and you do tend to sweat less as you age.   In fact, that is why the heat is so much more dangerous for elderly people than for those who are less along in years;  the elderly just can't perspire anymore, so they don't have the sweat to help cool the body.

I am guessing you can try some Maximum protection antiperspirant.  Perhaps, a different brand from your usual.  Not every product works well for everyone.  Maybe a men's product would help more.

Again, you can speak with your physician about something by prescription.  I have head from people over the years that Gold Bond powder helps quite a bit with perspiring feet.  Maybe it would help if you sprinkled some on after applying deodorant.

Again, my best wishes for a solution....

Andrea
