Handling Customer Complaints & Disputes: A Business Guide

Question
This guy called in and complained that we gave his daughter a rash on her finger nails after a manicure, which never happened in my shop before. So i asked if he could take her to my shop so i can see who she was and to make sure if she was one of our client. And i offer to take his daughter to a doctor then we'll see from there if it was out fault then i will pay for the expense, and then he asked for gas money which he lives 5 minutes away so i hung up the phone. i was wondering if he is a scam just looking for some cash from a business. If it was my daughter i would be so pissed off and want to take her to a doctor immediately. But i just don't get the fact why he would ask for gas money and he told me what is the point of taking my daughter to your shop which is my shop. So what do you think about this situation ? As a nail tech what would you do ?? by the way he called me with the private number so i can't contact him.

Answer
Considering he is asking for gas money, I would definitely say he's trying to scam you. I believe you handled the situation as best as you could and made a valid effort to do the right thing. I would document the call-- write down when it happened and what you said and what happened-- put it some place safe in case any one ever comes asking about it. And go on with your business. Chances are you'll never hear from him again.
