Zero Plus Hand Sanitizer & Amosilk: Does It Really Last 60 Hours?

Question
Have you heard of Zero Plus hand sanitizer with an ingredient called Amosilk?  It claims it will kill germs on your hands for 60 hours, even thru washing.  Is this true?

Answer
Hi Michelle,
I don't now about the validity of this claim BUT be CAREFUL about how many germs you plan to kill. Studies have been done that show antibacterial soaps can kill good bacteria and viruses and can lead to illness. My advice would be to wash with good old soap and water after questionable contacts and you should be just fine. A new paranoia has surfaced from Madison Avenue types who tell you that your hands are teeming with all this awful bacteria and that if you don't get rid of it you will be chronically ill. This is ALL done in an attempt to sell product. Be wary of TV ads! I work with sick people all day long and I wash before and after each patient contact (using soap and water) and have yet to be ill from anyone of them.
