QuestionQUESTION: I had a nerurological exam today, the Dr. thinks I fibromylagia or MS, if I don't improve in a month he wants an MRI, I don't have INS. so he wanted to take the conservative approach I guess.
My question is, he did an exam on me, I had to walk on my toes and heels, touch his finger then my nose, and a number of other test. I passed them, what does that mean? What are they looking for when they do those test? How accurate are they?
Thanks!
ANSWER: Passing these means you do not usually have a brain tumor or stroke but not much more. Accurate but not really useful.
Get a second opinion before MRI or ask for a spinal tap with fluid analysis first

QUESTION: Why should I get a second opinion before an MRI?
ANSWER: Only if you want to save unnecessary testing or costs

QUESTION: Ok, got it. Is it possible to have MS or Fibromylagia without an MRI? Or do I need the MRI for that diagnosis.
I REALLY appreciate the help you are giving me.
AnswerIt is not possible to definitively diagnose MS without a spinal fluid protein test, usually plus the MRI.
Fibromyalgia in my work is diagnosed with an elevated C-reactive protein, elevated sed rate and monocyte count, in a person on a gluten free diet taking enough magnesium oxide four times a day to produce 2-3 bowel movements daily(since magnesium deficiency and omega-6 plant oil excess are the underlying causes of fibromyalgia but they also help with MS too)
