Emergency Treatment for Dehydration: Saline & D5W Explained

I was wondering what is normally given to a patient in the ER who is suffering from dehydration due to vomitting, etc.?

Depending on their health history and if there are any concurrent treatment concerns, most people will just be given a bag of Saline or D5W (which has a little sugar in it for energy).
