Pregnancy Cramps & Post-Miscarriage Concerns: Advice from Dr. Boruki

Dear Dr. Boruki,
im a 25 yr old healthy female. I am in my 6th week of pregnancy. My appointment isnt until Jan 7th. I had a miscarriage last year at around the end of the 6th week and i am worried about this pregnancy. My question is: how common is it to experience light menstrual cramps especially at night time? And if ive had a m/c, should i not have sex for awhile? I read that semen can make the cervix loosen and cause a m/c. Thankyou

don't be concerned about the semen issue...

at 6 wks, if someone miscarries, it was because something bad was wrong with the pregnancy.  The only thing that concerns me is the possibility of a bladder/urinary tract infection... that should be checked earlier rather than later... that can be by any doctor, just a urine sample.
