Leg Numbness: Causes, Symptoms & When to See a Doctor

Question
Not sure if you can help but i thought i would give it a try. for the last three days the outside of my right leg from my knee down is numb.  the only way i can explain it is that feeling after you have crossed your leg or sat on it to long and it falls asleep.....well it feels like that but now, on day three, the muscle is sore and feels like i'm about ready to have a charlie horse but it never does.     the thing i'm most concerned about is i had a but bit this last summer and it formed a circle with bilsters/boils.  lab results were inconclusive...not viral or bacterial just a small amount of staph.  the infection worsened into red swollen ( i had very large cancles) and not cream was helping.....untimately they had to treat it with cephalexin (500 mg 3x a day) and it took a while but the infection part cleared up the the sores and blisters took over 2 months.....still no diagnosis. the majority of my numbness is concentraed around the now healed bug bit. i still have purple scars and it comes to the surface when i shower (i can totaly see the ring of where the bilsters where).
i am a healthy 39 yr old female and am wondering if i should just wait and see what happens or should i be concerned about the numbness.
hope i didnt babble to long but any information would be helpfull.
thanks,
Lee

Answer
Hi Lee,
This is interesting. The way you describe it makes me think that the original outbreak may have been a herpes infection (multiple blisters/purple residue/no bacterial or viral positivity on culture). If that is so, the CURRENT numbness may be what is called a prodrome to another outbreak. Numbness is usually the first sign of an impending outbreak. In a few days you may find out for sure.
