Leg Numbness While Driving: Causes, Risks & What to Do

Question
When I drive a car, usually after about 30 minutes time has passed, my leg on the accelerator starts to feel numb.  The numbness is not quite the same as it feels when a leg or arm "fall asleep" but it is close to that sensation.  Is this due to poor circulation or blood clots?

I sit at my job during most of the day and I do not have this same sensation.  However, I do get up take breaks in my sitting routine.  I am 51 and in good health with a regular gym (weights and cross trainers) work out routine at least 3 times a week.

This leg numbness while driving is relative new. I first noticed it on a long drive back from spring break.

Answer
Probably not a blood clot although those do occur with long drives. You may want to ask your doctor about taking aspirin for a few days before, during and after trips of any length beyond 1 hour. OK?
Many of my patients notice this if they sit in a bucket seat car with a consol that compresses their peroneal nerve on that side. OK?
